excerpt A Star Gem in the Rough

A Star Gem in the Rough is a sci-fi romance available at redrosepublishing.com.

Bellanca awoke with a start. She glanced around the room. “It was only a dream.” It seemed so real.
“Lights.” She commanded.
When the room was illuminated, she glanced at the clock on the bedside table: seven twenty-two. She sat on the bed for a moment, his face still fresh in her memory. But in her dream, he was a little older than when she last saw him and his hair was shorter.
Stop it, Bellanca. You’re not going to see him again. He doesn’t want to see you. Face it, he doesn’t love you. Did he ever? He was the one who called her Bella. Everyone else called her Bellanca. Either name sounded beautiful when he said it. Why did he have to go? It seemed like he couldn’t leave Cordovia fast enough. He got bored and moved on, just like everybody warned you he would.
Tears came to her eyes. She grabbed a tissue and dabbed them. Quit thinking about the past. You can’t sit around the hotel all day. You have to find your brother. She went to the closet and picked out a buttoned-down shirt and jeans.
